Caple Donovan or “D” as close friends and family called him crashed into the world February 20th 1968 in Montego Bay Jamaica. This crash would be characteristic of how he embraced life; head on and void of fear. He was the first known grandchild and nephew in the family and was doted on by Grandparents, Grand-Aunts, Grand-Uncles, Aunts and Uncles alike. He was extremely active, always on the go and loved by all. From this early many could tell he was extra-special and would impact many. He was a friendly child who made fast friends where-ever he went. From early he was physically fit, was one for speed and anything fast; he loved cars, planes and bikes. He opted more often than not to play than to read but he also enjoyed music, cooking graphic art and was very conscious of style and fashion.
As he got older he continued to be well known and liked in school he excelled in sports particularly running long distance and sprinting. He was always at the head of the pack and won many medals and awards. In high school he was extremely popular and was not as involved in sports due to various injuries. He was however, involved in the cadet crew and enjoyed hands-on courses such as Technical Drawing, Auto Mechanics and Wood Work.
Caple was a very helpful individual which also carried over into his college and adult life. He attended Sam Sharpe Teachers College in Jamaica after high school and later went on to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida where he wanted to become a pilot. He graduated in 1994 with a Bachelors in Aeronautical Engineering. He returned to Jamaica in 1997 and worked with Air Jamaica as an airplane engineer, was quickly promoted to supervisor and then manager.
Caple enjoyed life to the fullest and made the best of every moment. His teammates, colleagues and later employees always benefited from his training, teaching, encouragement and sound advice. His impact was so far reaching that family and friends did not realize its magnitude until after his death. On July 16th 2011 at approximately 3:45 a.m. Caple crashed out of this life as suddenly as he had entered it, when an extremely inebriated driver struck him as he cycled along a quiet street.
His wife Gaynor still revels in his many attributes and is thankful that she was able to spend even that short time with him. His son Zuad remembers much but it is hard to say if this is from what he has been told by family members, or memories of actual contact with his Dad. What we know for sure is that; unlike the rest of us he will never know just how exceptional his earthly father was and how much he was loved. We can however, be thankful that God our heavenly father loves us with an even greater love, and that in His eyes every life is precious.
I remember a dear friend, Caple, who was friendly, yet introverted. Humble, Honest, Genuine and just a great person. I will never understand why this happened….but here just to send love to his wife and family. Those of us from AirJ will always hold a special place in our hearts for Caple. I hope his family and wife know just how much we all loved Caple.
Thanks so much Sharon. I miss him so much, so much to share, so many jokes to tell him. I know he’s looking down on us and is really proud of his son. Never had another friend/brother/confidant. Love Love Love.
It is the least I could do for someone so wonderful and special. Nice to know others miss him just as much.
Really miss my friend. Miss our talks. He accomplished so much in such a short time. Gone too soon.
